Senior Van Services in New Milford:If you are a Senior Citizen and/or handicapped in need of transportation, please call 201-967-5044 extension 7874. We would like three days notice for doctor appointments. Monday thru Friday we offer full service throughout the Bergen County area. All other appointments i.e. bank, beauty parlor, library, etc. are at drivers’ convenience only. Thursday is food shopping at New Milford Shoprite only, no exceptions. We are closed all legal holidays. This service is free to all seniors and handicapped residents of New Milford. Due to heavy appointment scheduling, be ready 1 hour prior to appointment time. SEAT BELTS MUST BE WORN WHEN IN SENIOR VAN. NO EXCEPTIONS. Senior Van - Hours of Service8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Appointments made for after 2:00 pm will not be accepted. You must call the office on all cancellations. Office hours for the Senior Transport Department are 7:00 am to 11:00 am Monday thru Friday. Calls after that will be taken by our electronic message center. Please speak slowly and clearly giving your name, address and phone number, the date and time of your appointment, and the address and town you have to go to. We will confirm this with you the following day. After completion of your appointment, call the van that you were picked up in for a ride back home. The mission of the Senior Citizen Activity Center is to promote the physical, emotional and economic well being of seniors and encourage their participation in all aspects of community life. The Senior Citizen’s Advisory Board acts in an advisory capacity to this department.
The activities provided at the Senior Citizen Activity Center are Physical, Intellectual, Social, Creative, in addition to Special Events. The descriptions and definitions of the activities are as follows:
Physical - The programs provide a variety of physical activities in a group exercise atmosphere that is appropriate for older residents.
Intellectual - The Senior Citizen’s Advisory Board provides stimulating and informative programs to support the independence of older residents.
Social - The Senior Citizen’s Advisory Board arranges and provide for events, performances, luncheons, and outings so that groups of senior members can attend.
Creative - The Senior Citizen’s Advisory Board programs provide for mind stimulating activities using the imagination, original thought, and constructive and creative ideas.
Special Events/Services – The Senior Citizen’s Advisory Board and Director recommend and arrange for presentations by hospitals, schools, insurance companies, New Milford Community Police, County and State agencies and their services. These organizations provide advice and information to seniors about their personal concerns and safety. Trips are also planned.
In addition to the above, the Senior Citizen Activity Center serves as a nutirion center for the County of Bergen, providing a hot midday meal to seniors Monday through Friday.
